Ikawa: Whisky Above the Clouds
Presented by the Ikawa Distillery Team with Natsumi Fujimaki
At 1,200 metres above sea level in Shizuoka’s Southern Alps, Ikawa Distillery is Japan’s highest-altitude whisky maker. Surrounded by pristine forest and drawing on soft spring water filtered through ancient soils, Ikawa crafts whisky shaped by its natural environment and aged in Mizunara oak from the region.
This masterclass is a chance to discover Ikawa’s philosophy of harmony with nature, from newborn spirits to first releases and exclusive cask samples. Joining the distillery team will be Natsumi Fujimaki, whose role focuses on planning and communications for JUZAN Co., Ltd. Natsumi shares the unique value of the Ikawa Forest with audiences in Japan and abroad, bringing a perspective that connects whisky-making with the landscape it comes from. Her background as a hiking guide and her love of road trips, barbecues, and time spent in nature make her a passionate voice for the environment that shapes Ikawa’s whisky.
