Whisky Mew – Whisky, Manga & Japanese Pop Culture with Hideo Yamaoka
Whisky Mew sits at the intersection of two worlds Japan takes very seriously: whisky and visual culture.
Founded by Japanese whisky expert Hideo Yamaoka, Whisky Mew has become known for pairing carefully selected whiskies with artwork inspired by manga, anime and cinema – creating releases where the story on the label becomes part of the experience.
Hosted by Hideo himself, this masterclass will explore five Whisky Mew releases spanning Chichibu and mature Scotch whisky. Along the way, Hideo will share the stories behind the whiskies, the artwork and the cultural references that bring each bottling to life.
It’s a chance to explore whisky through a very different lens – where flavour, illustration, nostalgia and Japanese pop culture all meet in the bottle.
Five Whisky Mew releases:
- Chichibu 2018 – Golden Melon, Local Barley
- Ichiro’s Malt & Grain – Getter Robo
- Secret Speyside 1997, 23 Year Old – Mazinger Z
